Pleasanton Main Street Before Opening
A Friday morning on Main Street before the stores opened: a half-empty, slightly eerie downtown, and an hour of sitting by crosswalks waiting for people to walk into the frame.

I usually skip places like Pleasanton: too polished for me, I'd rather shoot somewhere with more grit. This time I went anyway, a Friday morning on Main Street with the 35mm.
Between 8 and 9 the street was half dead. Most stores were still closed, which gave it a slightly eerie feel, but there was still some life: deliveries, a few people out walking, and with Halloween the next day, a skeleton on a bike and someone in a yellow costume.
I walked Main Street up and down and fished: pick a spot, set the zoom, focus and exposure, sit 10 to 20 minutes, and wait for someone to walk into the frame. Then move to the next spot.
Crosswalks turned out to be the best spots. It sounds simple, but a few of the crossings came out nicely. On some I raised the camera on purpose to put the people at the bottom under the sky: cloudy, with blue between the clouds, overcast but not gloomy. The man with his two dogs on the cover was the last crossing I shot.
